A virtual conference hosted by the Illinois Orchid Society.
Five speakers are presented in two sessions. Viewers will have the opportunity to participate in informational demos and tour world class growing facilities in the comfort of their own home.
This conference is powered by Zoom, a video conferencing platform. A webcam is not required, unless you want other attendees to see you. Participants may choose either the morning session, afternoon, or both. All participants are required to register via the link provided. Participants must register for each session separately. Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis. Thank you for your understanding.

Learn the essential skill of distinguishing the different varieties of orchids by their shape and structure with this introduction to orchid identification.
Lois Cinert – See through the eyes of an AOS judge.
10:30am – 11:00am
Join the President of the Chicago Judging Center for a look at the good, bad, and ugly of orchids. Whether you apply it to your own orchid shopping or are considering becoming an AOS judge yourself, the principles are the same.
Ecuagenera – Tour the enchanting greenhouse of Ecuador’s most celebrated orchid nursery.
11:00am – 12:30am
Be transported to the Gualaceo valley in the Andes mountains in the footsteps of Father Angel Andreetta and the Portillo brothers on their quest to preserve the treasures of Ecuador, and tour the facility in which this mission is realized today.
Barry Lubin – A detailed guide to supplemental lighting.
1:00pm – 2:00pm
Take a closer look at how supplemental lighting can benefit your growing from the perspective of an accomplished grower. Take away a practical guide for selecting which type of light and how much light to use for your growing environment.
Sam Tsui – Follow Sam as he gives us a tour of his nursery.
2:00pm – 3:30pm
A hobby grower since the early 80’s, progressing into breeding and hybridizing and now running a commercial nursery - Orchid Inn. His focus is on the genus paphiopedilum, of which he produces thousands of flasks each year. His space began in his basement under lights, eventually expanding into a sprawling 6000 square foot greenhouse.
